Talk:Main Page

Andrew Jenkins raised this question:

I asked about the theme for the potential panel event but, in the case of the book, how comfortable are we leaving it to the users to determine the theme/objective of the book? Are we going to set clear parameters within which the wiki participants can play or leave it quite open? We talked about content from experts for SME’s to use but do we see value in having SME’s contribute real world experiences and knowledge as they work with SM, given their reliance of word of mouth from peers? Do we need to finalize the community composition now or refine it over time and let the audience dictate a bit of the the direction too?

From Catherine:

The discussions I have had were intended to get early responses to our revenue model from people best described as thought leaders in the SM marketing field, B2B space and potential "editors".

Their response to a fee to contribute/edit was generally viewed sceptically given that they have their own channels/brand/followers.

Some suggestions which might mitigate a fee would be a) an ownership share of the resulting "document" ie. publishing rights b) a share of the traffic they generate c) advertising revenue from traffic they drive to the wiki from their sites/followers

On the other hand, if this is a crowd-sourced effort with no fees from thought-leaders, several concerns arise a) accelerating to critical mass b) providing multilingual/translation capabilities to source global input c) attracting "names" or subject matter experts to guide quality levels d) Creating enough content to attract & retain "subscribers" who would pay fees.
